Fall Flavors

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and I’ve been thinking about what kind of menu I want to put together for a plant based holiday meal. There are so many amazing Fall flavors that can be incorporated.

When I think of Fall I think of squash, carrots, apples and cinnamon, figs, pomegranates, persimmons, sweet potatoes and more. This is the season when these ingredients are at their peak and just waiting to be showcased in layers of flavor set in comforting and creative meals.

Other produce that is in season right now is beets, broccoli and brussel sprouts. I giggled a little bit when I wrote the prior sentence. This made me think of the show The Office and the episode where Jim Halpert dresses up like Dwight to make fun of him and says “Bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica.” Anyway, moving on.

I have some rough ideas in my head currently. For the main course I think I’m going to put together a butternut squash casserole of sorts. Other dishes will be a salad with figs and pomegranate, chipotle maple mashed sweet potatoes, blood orange cranberry sauce, a gluten free herbaceous chestnut stuffing and pumpkin rice pudding. This is my rough sketch that I need to form into actual recipes. Just thought I’d do a quick write up of my Thanksgiving plan. These are the thoughts that bumble around in my head and food is constantly on the brain.
