Korean BBQ Cauliflower Wings

Summer has been cruising by, I think that I blinked and June and July were gone. We’ve had some really beautiful days here recently and I’ve enjoyed being outside in the sunshine quite a bit.

For a while now I’ve wanted to try making different flavors of cauliflower wings. I’ve done buffalo before and I wanted to try a korean style barbecue sauce. I had a sneaking suspicion that it would taste amazing. It does, I’ve made these twice now and it’s hard to stop eating them.

Korean BBQ Cauliflower Wings

Prep Time: 10 mins | Cook Time: 30

Servings: 4

1 head of cauliflower, cut into florets
1 cup all purpose gluten free flour
1 cup of water
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp onion powder
1 tsp sea salt

Korean Style Barbecue Sauce
4 tbsp of vegan butter (I used Miyoko’s brand)
1/4 cup harissa
2 tbsp liquid aminos or coconut aminos
2 tbsp garlic, minced
3 tsp ginger, minced
4 tbsp maple syrup or agave syrup
4 tbsp of water
2 tbsp rice vinegar

Garlic Lime Crema
1/2 cup plain almond milk yogurt
1 tsp lime zest
2 tsp minced garlic
1/4 tsp cumin
1/8 tsp sea salt

*Sliced jalapeno, green onion, and white sesame seeds for garnish.

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Start on the batter for the cauliflower wings. In a large bowl add flour, garlic powder, onion powder and salt, stir to combine. Add in the water and whisk until the batter becomes smooth. Dip the cauliflower florets in the batter and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Once all the cauliflower is dipped place the baking sheet in the oven for 20 minutes.

Start on the Korean style barbecue sauce. In a large sauce pot add butter, harissa, liquid aminos, garlic, ginger, maple syrup, water and rice vinegar. Stir ingredients together and being to a boil, once boiling turn down to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes.

Take the wings out of the oven and dip each one in the barbecue sauce, once fully sauced place them back in the oven and cook for another 10 minutes. There should be leftover sauce to drizzle over when they come out of the oven.

For the lime crema add yogurt, lime zest, lime juice, garlic, cumin and sea salt to a small bowl and stir till combined.

Once the wings are done take them out of the over, drizzle them with more sauce and serve with the garlic lime crema and enjoy!
