After finishing dinner tonight, I was staring at a bottle of Faygo Rock n’ Rye flavored soda that was sitting on the coffee table. The flavor is a red cream soda. There is no dairy or gluten in this soda even though it is a cream soda. In case you wanted to know what Alpha and I ate for dinner; it was tempeh reubens and they were delicious.
Okay back to the Faygo. I haven’t drank soda in about ten years but Alpha still drinks it on occasion. I was thinking about the coconut milk vanilla ice cream and frozen cherries in the freezer.
Next up my brain starts mind melding things together. What if I took the cherries and simmered them in the Rock n’ Rye and made a syrup out of it for an ice cream topping? Have I watched too many episodes of Chopped? (The answer is yes). I’m thinking experiments in ice cream toppings coming to you soon. What are some of your favorite ice cream toppings?
Making fruit based syrups is pretty simple. I’m thinking of making a number of fruit based ones. And maybe we’ll do a few soda based ones, rootbeer or the Izzy sparkling juices might be good to make ice cream toppings out of. The Rock n Rye tempted me but the ingredients in there kept me at bay.
