To me, the taste of a pina colada is an island escape. It's a summer paradise for the tastebuds and it whisks you off to a dreamy state of mind. Chia pudding is delicious and nutritious, it's a great breakfast item, dessert, or snack.
It's been raining so much here in Michigan that everything has become a vivacious veil of green. Today was the first sunny day we've had in quite some time, twas a beautiful day. With all this rain, I've been indoors a quite bit. There are a few things that I enjoy doing when it rains... Continue Reading →
I'm a big fan of blood oranges, they have a beautiful color, they're a little bit sweet and a little bit tart. They're fun to work with. The other day I was at the grocery store and I bought a bag of blood oranges. I've been slowly working through that bag by adding them to different recipes.
This salad should actually be titled "roasted beet salad with shaved fennel, mint, cara cara and blood oranges with a balsamic blood orange vinaigrette." Not only is that way too long, it's a mouthful of words and not quite the blog friendly title. Sometimes I forget how delicious the earthiness of a roasted beet can... Continue Reading →
There's something so earthy and delicious about an herbaceous pesto. As I was looking in the fridge and cupboards yesterday to figure out what to make for dinner, I saw that I had all the ingredients for a pesto. However, I didn't just want pesto and pasta. I wanted to amp it up a little so I cooked up some chickpeas in harissa sauce. I also had some radish sprouts hanging out in the fridge that I put on top as a garnish/topping. This meal tastes of springtime!
Spring has sprung! Flowers are starting to pop their sleepy heads up from the ground and things are looking greener. In the spirit of things turning green and waking up from a long winter's sleep I made a green smoothie. Green smoothies are a great way to start your day. It's also a great way to cram in a bunch of good for you tasty ingredients into one delicious concoction.
I have an obsession with peppers; hot peppers, sweet peppers, floral tasting peppers, pick a peck of pickled peppers and give them to me! I recently have jumped on the shishito pepper train. The shishito is a more floral pepper, but one in every ten peppers or so surprises you with a wake up call... Continue Reading →
Potatoes go great with a variety of flavors and sauces. I've been rediscovering my love of harissa lately, and I wanted a vehicle for the minty harissa yogurt sauce that I created. I decided to do some simple garlicky roasted potato wedges with the sauce.
I feel there are two types of people in the world. Those who love olives and those who dislike olives. I love them, always have, give me all the olives and the pickled foods too. There are so many fantastic varieties that you can use to enhance your food. I love olives ala carte, olive... Continue Reading →
